### Biography
Daina Warren is a contemporary curator and artist. She is a member of the Montana Cree Nation in Maskwacis (Bear Hills), Alberta. Her interest in curating Aboriginal art and working with Indigenous artists is at the forefront of her research. Over the past twenty-five years, Warren has worked in programming roles at institutions such as grunt gallery, National Gallery of Canada, Urban Shaman Contemporary Aboriginal Art, and most recently the Institute of American Indian Arts. She was elected as one of four Indigenous women curators in the 2015 Asia-Pacific Visual Arts Delegation to participate in the First Nations Curators Exchange at the 8th Asia-Pacific Triennial in Brisbane, Australia. She was also awarded the 2022 Manitoba Arts Award of Distinction. She is currently Executive Director, Indigenous Initiatives at Emily Carr University.

Please join us for a screening of works by Lindsay McIntyre at The Cinematheque on the occasion of McIntyre’s exhibition *Distance Between Objects, Time Between Events*. A conversation between McIntyre and CAG curator Godfre Leung will follow the screening.

This program features experimental shorts by Lindsay McIntyre that each explore what was left behind by her great-grandmother Kumaa’naaq, and what is missing. *Seeing Her* is a silent portrait depicting the beaded front panel of Kumaa’naaq’s amauti. Edited in-camera on hand-processed Super 16, the hypnotic animation parallels the abundant skill, technique and labour of the parka’s making with McIntyre’s studied, hands-on analog filmmaking. *though she never spoke, this is where her voice would have been.* features a Fisher Price audiotape recording made by McIntyre at age eight. Addressed repeatedly in the looping soundtrack but never actually heard is Kumaa’naaq’s voice, which had been inadvertently taped over in the recording, tragically erasing the only known time-based record of her. The haunting narrative documentary *her silent life.* traces the deep and unspoken intergenerational resonances of Kumaa’naaq’s displacement from the North and the disappearance of McIntyre’s grandmother Marguerite from their family.

### Biography
Lindsay McIntyre is an artist and filmmaker of Inuit and mixed settler descent who explores place-based knowledge, material practices and personal histories in her experimental/documentary shorts. Her films have received numerous awards and accolades and have been presented at Anthology Film Archives, the Baltimore Museum of Art, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, the National Museum of the American Indian, Rovaniemi Art Museum, and in film festivals worldwide. *NIGIQTUQ ᓂᒋᖅᑐᖅ (The South Wind)* (2023), her recent leap into narrative, garnered her Best Short at the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival and a submission to the 2025 Academy Awards. Her related first dramatic feature, *The Words We Can’t Speak* (in development), won the Women in the Director’s Chair Feature Film Award. She is a fellow of Sundance Native Lab (2024), Forge Projects (2024) and the COUSIN Collective (2022), and teaches Film + Screen Arts at Emily Carr University of Art + Design on unceded Coast Salish Territory in Vancouver.

### Biography
CFGNY is an artist collective whose research-based practice takes the form of image making, installation, sculpture, and performance to expand ideas of racialization and subjectivity. Founded in 2016, the collective continually returns to the term “vaguely Asian”: an understanding of racial identity as a specific cultural experience combined with the experience of being perceived as other. Recent exhibitions, performances and projects include Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, New York (2025), Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2024), PIN-UP Magazine, Milan (2023), SculptureCenter, New York (2022), Japan Society, New York (2022), X Museum, Beijing (2021), RISD Museum, Providence (2019), and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2018). In October 2024, CFGNY was named Frieze London’s Focus Stand Prize winner for its presentation with Hot Wheels, Athens and London. CFGNY is composed of Daniel Chew, Ten Izu, Kirsten Kilponen, and Tin Nguyen.

### Biographies
Aruna D’Souza writes about modern and contemporary art, intersectional feminisms, and diasporic aesthetics. Her work appears regularly in 4Columns, The New York Times, and in numerous artist’s monographs and exhibition catalogues. *Whitewalling: Art, Race, and Protest in 3 Acts* was named one of the best art books of 2018 by the New York Times. Recent editorial projects include Linda Nochlin’s *Making It Modern: Essays on the Art of the Now* and Lorraine O’Grady’s *Writing in Space 1973-2018*; she co-curated the retrospective “Lorraine O’Grady: Both/And” at the Brooklyn Museum in 2021. She is the recipient of the 2021 Rabkin Prize for art journalism and a 2019 Andy Warhol Foundation Art Writers Grant. She was appointed the Edmond J. Safra Visiting Professor at the National Gallery of Art in 2022, and the W.W. Corcoran Professor of Social Engagement at the Corcoran School of Art, George Washington University, in 2022-2023. Her most recent book, *Imperfect Solidarities* was published in 2024.

Divya Mehra is known for her meticulous attention to the interaction of form, medium and site. Her works are a reminder of the complex realities of displacement, loss and oppression. Mehra’s work has been exhibited, screened and commissioned by Frieze Sculpture, Los Angeles; Creative Time, New York; MoMA PS1, New York; Queens Museum of Art, New York; MASS MoCA, North Adams, MA; CCA Wattis Institute, San Francisco; Nuit Blanche, Toronto; and the Embassy of Canada in Washington, D.C. She has been featured in publications such as the New York Times, Times of India, ArtAsiaPacific, Hyperallergic, The Globe and Mail, and The Washington Post. Mehra’s work is in numerous public collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; Global Affairs Canada; and the MacKenzie Art Gallery, Regina. She is the recipient of the 2022 Sobey Art Award. Mehra lives and works in Seattle.

### Biography
Tom Hsu (b. 1988, Hsinchu, Taiwan) is an artist currently residing and working in unceded Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh territories in Vancouver. He comes from a base in analog photography, and this stability allows him to extend into made, found and choreographic sculpture, all of which deal with the everyday mundane. Hsu holds a BFA in Photography from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. His work has been exhibited at numerous galleries, including the Libby Leshgold Gallery, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, Pendulum Gallery, Centre A, Telephone Gallery, Macaulay & Co. Fine Art, Burrard Arts Foundation, YACTAC, and UNIT/PITT (all Vancouver); and Gallery TPW (Toronto).

### Biography
Chris Chong Chan Fui works with moving images and objects that reveal unfamiliar narratives through the natural sciences, transnational circuits of globalization, and manufactured cultures and landscapes. Chong has premiered his films at the Cannes Film Festival's Directors’ Fortnight, BFI London, and TIFF’s Wavelengths, and exhibited at the Yokohama Museum of Art, Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, Palais de Tokyo, EYE Film Institute Netherlands, and the Gwangju Biennale. He is a Smithsonian Institute fellow (National Museum of Natural History), a Ford Foundation fellow, a Rockefeller Foundation's Bellagio Arts Fellow, and an Assistant Professor, Film at the SFU School for the Contemporary Arts.
